Prostate Cancer
While some prostate cancers grow and spread quickly, most of them grow slowly.
Found only in men, the prostate is a gland located in front of the rectum and underneath the urinary bladder. Its size varies with age. The prostate makes some of the fluid that protects and nourishes sperm cells in semen, which makes semen more liquid. Behind the prostate gland are the seminal vesicles which makes most of the fluid for semen, and the urethra, the tube that carries urine and semen out of the body through the penis, going through the center of the prostate.
According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), next to skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men after skin cancer. However, prostate cancer in American men is the second leading cause of cancer death behind lung cancer.
The 2011 ACS estimates for prostate cancer in the United States are approximately 240,890 new cases diagnosed, and about 33,720 men will die of prostate cancer. About 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime, and about 1 man in 36 will die of this disease
Treatments for prostate cancer include Radiation Therapy, Chemotherapy, Surgery, Hormone Therapy, Immunotherapy, and Nutrition therapy.
